MARDUK

from $50.00

“…the Word that speaks Truth into Chaos at the beginning of Time to generate Order that is Good…”. Marduk (Sumerian: amar utu.k "calf of the sun; solar calf") was a late-generation god from ancient Mesopotamia and patron deity of the city of Babylon. ““Gods” represent primary modes of being… primary motivational drives that have been conceptualized – the gods are transcendent “personalities”, and they control us… so imagine that these “gods” compete in people’s imaginations across time and across cultures, and some gods win, so those are the ideals that are embodied in the society” .

“...so the Mesopotamians were trying to figure out who or what was “King of the Gods”- what transcendent personality or set of personalities should be the sovereign force in their culture, and why - what principle attributes were required to respond to the emergency of chaos and regenerate order…”. “Marduk is a whole new category of god. He can speak magic words (“the capacity for communicative speech”) and he has eyes all around his head (“he has the vision to see and to pay attention”). So the Mesopotamians are working out that the thing that guides destiny – especially if destiny involves going into combat with chaos itself and restructuring the world – is the thing that can speak and see…”
